METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. After that we move the scraper slowly beneath the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we will not use high pressure because that will sometimes ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses more pressure than necessary to safely clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged much easier than people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
